What do the Preschool sessions include?

All our sessions are themed and start with a warm up to raise the heart rate. Using hand apparatus we work on stretching, coordination, body preparation and basic gymnastics shapes. The Little acorns do a basic version of this, and then can go and play on the equipment. We demonstrate the circuits like we do for the second class but all at the beginning after the group activity. This is to give all attending, adults and children, an idea what can be done on the layout but the children can go and play on any of the equipment however they like as long as they are safe.

Buds and Seedlings layouts are the same. We start with a group warm up activity on the floor area, then move on to the circuits demonstrating one and encouraging the children to follow it. Buds class can still explore the equipment but are encouraged to come back to the circuit we are working on. This is because children are still learning to follow instructions at this age. It is advised that parents let them run around a little bit but encourage them to come back to the circuit. The Seedlings class are expected to join in more with the activities and do more of the suggested activities but as a minimum to stay on the circuit we are working on.

There are three circuits laid out. Beam, Floor & Vault, and Bars. The gymnastics skill for these change with the term themes which are done for 3 or 4 weeks because children learn through repetition. Our circuits include practicing those all important fine motor skills as well as gross motor skills.

We end the session the same way we start, with a group activity. These can vary. Some weeks we work on group cooperation and some weeks we work on a challenge to progress a move ready for it to be added into one of our circuits and move on to the next step, some weeks we do a rhyme and actions. We close the session with a recap on the objectives and talk about our favourite things from the session.
